Tips

For the best ingredients and the most helpful tips when baking breads, we recommend King Arthur Flour and cookbooks.

Lemons will give almost twice as much juice if they are covered (in a pan) with hot water for 20 minutes before sqeezing.

Use instant potatoes to thicken soups or stews as a more flavorful substitute for flour or cornstarch.

Your fruit salads will look perfect if you use an egg slicer to make perfect slices of strawberries, kiwis, or bananas.

To dress up buttered, cooked veggies, try sprinkling them with sesame seeds, toasted chopped nuts, canned french fried onions, or slightly crushed seasoned croutons.

Always encourage young people to cook, but always supervise their activities.

To keep the cake plate clean while frosting, slide 6 inch strips of waxed paper under each side of the cake. Once the cake is frosted and the frosting is set, pull the strips away leaving a clean plate.
